The announcement of the Kahului Hawaii Temple comes at a time when the island has a rich history with the Church, dating back to the arrival of Latter-day Saint missionaries in 1850. At the time of the announcement, there were two other Temples in Hawaii: the Kona Hawaii Temple undergoing renovations and the Laie Hawaii Temple, dedicated in 1919. On Maui itself, nearly 75,000 members are part of 145 congregations, with over 4,500 residing directly on the island.

Location and Size
The Kahului Hawaii Temple will be constructed on a 7.6-acre lot at an elevation of 230 feet. It is designed to cover approximately 19,000 square feet, though there is no public rendering available yet. At this stage, no groundbreaking or site dedication has been announced, but updates will be provided as they arise.
Supporting the Community
Kahului is situated about 25 miles east of Lahaina, where devastating wildfires occurred in August 2023, tragically taking dozens of lives and severely impacting local communities.
