LDS Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple, a significant addition in the region, is generating excitement among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This new Temple not only aims to provide a spiritual focus but also enhances the cultural landscape of Provo.
Key Features of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
The announcement of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple was made by Prophet Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021. This new Temple will be built on a generous 17-acre site, which is slightly larger than the previous 15-acre site, as the road in front of the original Temple has been removed.
Structure and Design
The Temple will feature a prominent central spire, which will be single and attached. Unlike some other Temples, it will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, as the previous one is currently in storage. The exterior of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be made of beautiful granite, adding a timeless elegance to its appearance. Spanning an impressive 163,000 square feet, it will have a height of 81 meters, or 265 feet 6 inches.
Current Status of Construction
Construction for the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple commenced on February 24, 2024. With a rendering publicly revealed on November 24, 2021, the anticipation surrounding the Temple continues to grow. Landscaping work is actively taking place, with trees recently planted around the perimeter and sod laid down. Improvements in the landscaping, including waterscapes, are also being integrated into the surroundings.
Parking and Accessibility
Located at 2200 Temple Hill Drive, Provo, UT 84604, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will feature ample parking, a design choice that parallels many new Temples being constructed. Notably, there will not be a meetinghouse in the same parking lot as the Temple.
Membership and Community Impact
At the time of the announcement, there were roughly 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with around 500 congregations flourishing across the state of Utah. The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will mark the sixth Temple in Utah and is expected to be completed by late 2027.
With its remarkable elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, the Temple will undoubtedly serve as a center of spiritual significance for many.
Looking Ahead
As the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple nears its completion, those interested can look forward to updates on the landscaping and overall development through various media, including an upcoming video showcasing the improvements.
