Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is steadily taking shape! A sacred addition to the heart of Utah Valley
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is an exciting addition to the architectural landscape of Utah. Announced on October 3, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this new Temple is set to offer a unique experience for its members and an impressive sight for all who pass by.
Key Features of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
Spanning 163,000 square feet, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be the sixth Temple in the state. It is being constructed on a 17-acre site, slightly larger than the previous Temple’s 15 acres. The additional space was made possible by removing a road that used to be located at the front of the old Temple.
Architectural Highlights
The exterior of the Temple will be adorned with granite cladding and sheathing. As construction progresses, the installation of windows is underway, followed by extensive landscaping throughout the grounds. The central spire, without a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, will rise to an impressive height of 81 meters or 265 feet and 6 inches.
Community Impact
At the time of its announcement, there were roughly 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints globally, with about 500 congregations in Utah alone. This new addition aims to enhance the spiritual and social fabric of the area even further.
Construction Timeline and Location
Construction officially began on February 24, 2024, with an anticipated completion date in late 2027. Located at 2200 Temple Hill Drive, Provo, UT 84604, the site features ample parking facilities, making access straightforward.
Visual Appeal and Landscaping
The landscaping efforts have included planting trees around the perimeter and laying sod, which are contributing to an inviting atmosphere. Improvements to the landscaping and waterscapes are also in progress, promising a beautiful setting for the Temple. A video showcasing these developments will be available on YouTube soon, providing a detailed look at the ongoing transformations.
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is not just a new building; it represents a growing commitment to spirituality and service in a thriving community. As the construction continues, the anticipation surrounding this remarkable addition only grows stronger.
