Announced on October 3, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will occupy a 17-acre site, an increase from the old Temple’s 15 acres. This change was made possible by the removal of a road at the front of the previous Temple location. The Temple is being constructed at an impressive size of 163,000 square feet, making it a prominent feature in the region.
Construction Details
Construction commenced on February 24, 2024, with the exterior work underway. The exterior will be clad in granite, complemented by elegant windows. Recently, trees have been planted around the perimeter, and sod has been placed to enhance the surrounding landscape. Additionally, landscaping and waterscapes are being installed, promising beautiful grounds for the future.
Key Features
The design includes a single attached central spire, which will not feature a gold-leafed Angel Moroni as seen in other Temples. The current Angel Moroni is being kept in storage. The Temple will be situated at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, providing a unique vantage point.

Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple marks the sixth Temple in the state of Utah. At the time of its announcement, there were around 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints globally and approximately 500 groups within Utah.
Expected Completion
The completion of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is anticipated for late 2027. This timeline allows for substantial work to be carried out, ensuring a beautifully finished exterior and landscape.
