Temple Construction News Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple

The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is poised to become a significant addition to the spiritual landscape of the region. Announced by Prophet Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, this Temple not only signifies growth for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but also represents a new chapter in the legacy of Provo’s facilities.

Design and Construction

Construction of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple officially began on February 24, 2024, and it’s expected to be completed by late 2027. Located at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, this expansive facility covers 163,000 square feet and sits at a height of 81 meters or 265 feet 6 inches.

Location and Features

The Temple will be situated on a 17-acre site, which is larger than the 15 acres of the previous Provo Utah Temple. Importantly, there will be no meetinghouse in the same parking lot, but ample parking will be available for all who wish to take part in activities. The exterior will be adorned with granite, giving it a majestic and timeless quality. Notably, the Temple will feature a single attached central spire, and it will not include a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, which is currently in storage.

Exterior and Landscaping

The exterior work is well underway, including cladding and sheathing, as well as the installation of windows. Recent efforts have focused on landscaping the grounds, with trees recently planted around the perimeter and sod placed in various areas. Improvements to the landscaping and waterscapes are also in progress, offering a picturesque environment.

A detailed video showcasing these improvements is in the works and will soon be available on YouTube. The video promises to provide an in-depth look at the ongoing developments at the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple site.

Community Context

With an estimated 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and around 500 congregations in the state of Utah at the time of the Temple’s announcement, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple represents a growing presence in the area. Following its name change from the Provo Utah Temple on February 20, 2024, this facility will stand as the sixth Temple in Utah, further enriching the spiritual fabric of the state.

The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is shaping up to be an architectural triumph with its elegant design and expansive footprint. As construction progresses, the excitement surrounding this new facility continues to build, marking a significant milestone in the region’s spiritual history.

This Temple is not merely a place; it is a reflection of the evolving faith and dedication of its members. As we look forward to the anticipated completion in 2027, the excitement among members and the broader community continues to grow.
