The Latest Temple News from the Church of Jesus Christ Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple

The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is set to be a significant addition to the area, offering a sprawling design and modern amenities. Currently under construction, this Temple promises to uplift and serve its members in a variety of ways.

Key Features and Dimensions

The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will occupy an expansive 17-acre site, a slight increase from the previous Temple’s 15 acres. This additional space comes as a result of removing the access road from the old site. The Temple will feature a single attached central spire, though without the gold-leafed Angel Moroni, which is currently in storage. The exterior will be clad in granite, further enhancing its visual appeal.

With a total area of 163,000 square feet and standing at approximately 265 feet 6 inches tall, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be the largest of its kind in the area. Situated at an elevation of about 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, it will serve as a prominent feature on the Provo skyline.

Construction Timeline

Construction officially began on February 24, 2024, following the announcement made by prophet Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021. The rendering of the Temple was publicly released on November 24, 2021, showcasing its stunning design.

Landscaping and Surroundings

The landscaping around the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is a focal point of the ongoing construction efforts. Recent improvements include the planting of trees around the perimeter and the installation of sod. Additional landscaping features, including waterscapes, are also in the works, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the site.

Parking and Accessibility

Although the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will not house a meetinghouse in the same parking lot, ample parking will be available to accommodate those utilizing the Temple services.

An Evolving Name

Initially named the Provo Utah Temple, the Temple underwent a renaming on February 20, 2024, to more accurately represent its unique identity and location. As the sixth Temple in Utah, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple reflects the growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state, where membership has reached approximately 16.8 million, with around 500 congregations.

Looking Ahead

The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is expected to be completed in late 2027. As the construction progresses, many are eager to see the final results and experience all that the Temple will offer. In the near future, a detailed video showcasing the landscaping and construction updates will be available on YouTube.
