History and Construction
The announcement for the Sacramento California Temple took place on April 21, 2001. Shortly after, the groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on August 22, 2004, officiated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Following two years of effort, the public open house was held from July 29 through August 26, 2006, creating excitement in the surrounding areas.
On September 3, 2006, the Temple was officially dedicated by Gordon B. Hinckley. At this point, it became a vital part of the larger network of places dedicated to spiritual pursuits, and its construction marked a significant milestone for its supporters.
Architectural Features
The Sacramento California Temple is built on a 46-acre lot and features an exterior of light gray granite. A notable element of its design is the single attached end spire crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue.
With a total square footage of 19,500, the Temple reaches a height of 131 feet and sits at an elevation of 256 feet. This impressive elevation adds to its visibility and prominence in the Rancho Cordova area.
