Groundbreaking and Dedication
The official groundbreaking took place on March 30, 1998, led by Elder Hugh W. Pinnock. In his remarks, Elder Pinnock encouraged members to adhere to their principles, prepare spiritually to utilize the House of the Lord, and instill values in the younger generation. Just 18 months later, the Billings Montana Temple was opened to the public from October 8 to the 23, 1999.
The dedication of this House of the Lord occurred over two days, from November 20 to 21, 1999. President Gordon B. Hinckley, the 15th President of the Church, officiated the ceremony, accompanied by prominent leaders including President Thomas S. Monson and Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin. In his dedicatory prayer, President Hinckley expressed hopes that all who enter would find strength for their sacred endeavors and be part of a grand purpose inspired by the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Architectural Features
The exterior of the Billings Montana Temple features a striking finish of Wyoming white dolomite precast concrete and is crowned by a single central spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. Interior Highlights and Facilities
Spanning 30,800 square feet, the interior layout of the Billings Montana Temple is a model of space efficiency, equipped with various amenities typical of larger Houses of the Lord.
