Exciting Developments: The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple!
Get ready, Provo! The eagerly anticipated Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is on the horizon, and it promises to bring a new spirit of community and inspiration to our beautiful city!
Announced with Excitement
The journey to this magnificent temple began on October 3, 2021, when the Prophet Russell M. Nelson revealed its plans. Since that moment, the excitement has only been building, ushering in a new chapter for the faithful in Utah. This will be the sixth temple in the state, where approximately 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reside, scattered across around 500 congregations.
A Stunning New Structure
What can we expect from this stunning new landmark? Spanning a generous 163,000 square feet, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will stand proudly at 265 feet 6 inches tall. With its elegant granite exterior and a striking single attached central spire (without the familiar gold-leafed Angel Moroni, which is currently in storage), it will redefine the skyline of our beloved Provo.
Built on Expansive Grounds
Nestled on an impressive 17-acre site, this new temple will not be sharing a parking lot with any meeting house, ensuring ample space for all visitors. While there is a meeting house just off to the corner across the street, the focus will remain on this magnificent temple dedicated to peace, reflection, and community.
Elevation of Beauty
Set at an elevation of about 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple promises breathtaking views and an ambiance of serenity, perfect for worship and gatherings. Imagine standing in its beautiful surroundings, gazing up at its inspiring architecture!
Construction and Future Outlook
Construction officially kicked off on February 24, 2024, a date that marks the beginning of a new chapter in Provo’s history. The grand completion of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is expected in late 2027, and we can’t wait to see it finished!
From Old to New
This new temple signifies a transformation from the previous Provo Utah Temple, which has been renamed as the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple as of February 20, 2024. The new location reflects not only the growth of the community but also the deepening commitment to provide a space for worship and personal connection.
A Community Space
Once completed, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will surely become a heart of spiritual life, fostering unity and inspiration in the Provo community. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a new visitor, the temple’s doors will be open, welcoming everyone to experience its beauty and peace.
As we look forward to this exciting new chapter in our city’s history, let’s continue to spread the word and share in the anticipation of the grand opening of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple.
