Announced by the beloved Prophet Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, this stunning temple promises to be a centerpiece of beauty and spiritual significance in our community!
A New Home for Worship
Spanning an impressive 17 acres, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be larger than its predecessor, which stood gracefully on 15 acres. Thanks to smart planning that removed the road in front of the previous temple, this new location will provide enhanced access and a more magnificent setting for worship. Although the new temple will not share a parking lot with a meeting house—fear not! A convenient parking lot is located just across the street for all your visiting needs.
Iconic Design
With stunning granite exterior and an approximate size of 163,000 square feet, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be a sight to behold! Standing tall at 265 feet and 6 inches, the temple will feature a single attached central spire—a modern twist with no gold-leafed Angel Moroni, which is currently in storage. Its design is not just about grandeur but also about embracing the beauty of nature that surrounds it, as it sits at an elevation of about 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level.
A Community Catalyst
As the sixth temple in Utah, this new architectural marvel is designed to accommodate the growing number of congregants in the area. With approximately 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints globally and around 500 congregations in Utah, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is perfectly poised to serve as a hub of faith and community.
Journey Ahead
Construction officially kicked off on February 24, 2024, and the anticipation is palpable! The official rendering released on November 24, 2021, gives a glimpse of the breathtaking structure that awaits us. As we stand on the brink of this exciting journey, completion is set for late 2027.
Changing its name from the Provo Utah Temple to the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple on February 20, 2024, signifies a fresh chapter in an already rich history. This renaming not only honors its new location but also infuses a sense of vitality and enthusiasm into the lives of all who will visit.
