Exciting News: The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple!
Excitement is in the air as the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple begins to take shape! Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, this magnificent edifice is set to become a beacon of faith and hope in the heart of Utah. Here’s everything you need to know about this much-anticipated temple.
A New Beginning
Construction for the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple officially commenced on February 24, 2024, and it promises to be a stunning addition to the landscape of Provo. Nestled on a generous 17-acre site—up from the previous location’s 15 acres—the new temple will stand tall at 163,000 square feet. That’s a significant increase in size, making it not just larger, but also a more welcoming space for worshipers and visitors alike!
A Different Design
One of the most exciting aspects of this new temple is its modern design, featuring a single attached central spire. Unlike its predecessor, the new temple will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni but will proudly display its spire rising to 265 feet 6 inches (or 81 meters) into the Utah sky. The temple’s exterior will be clad in beautiful granite, giving it a timeless and elegant appearance that will harmonize beautifully with the surrounding Rock Canyon scenery.
A Strategic Location
Located at 2200 Temple Hill Dr, Provo, UT 84604, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is intentionally designed for accessibility. While it won’t share a parking lot with a meeting house, there’s a convenient parking area just off to the corner across the street, making it easy for congregants and visitors to access the temple.
For all you geography buffs, did you know that this incredible temple will be situated at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level? That means you’ll not only be uplifted spiritually but also enjoy some breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape!
Serving the Community
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be the sixth temple in Utah, an area with a vibrant faith community, home to roughly 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Utah alone boasts approximately 500 congregations, making this temple an essential spiritual hub for many.
Renamed from the Provo Utah Temple to Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple on February 20, 2024, this name change reflects a commitment to honor the natural beauty and significance of its surroundings. Completed by late 2027, the temple promises to be not just a place of worship but a landmark that will inspire countless individuals and families for generations to come.
A Glimpse Into the Future
The rendering revealed to the public on November 24, 2021, offers just a taste of what’s to come, but we know that the finished temple will far exceed our expectations. Imagine a place filled with peace, community, and spiritual rejuvenation—a sanctuary amidst the beauty of Rock Canyon.
So, mark your calendars and stay tuned as we celebrate the ongoing construction of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple. It’s a thrilling time for the community, and we can’t wait to see this beautiful temple come to life!
