Mark your calendars, Ohio residents! The long-awaited Cleveland Ohio Temple is officially on its way, bringing a sparkling beacon of faith and community to the Buckeye State. Let’s dive into what makes this Temple so special and the anticipation surrounding its completion.
A Monumental Announcement
The Cleveland Ohio Temple was announced during the 194th General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 3, 2022. The news was met with much excitement, as the Temple will serve as a sacred space for the more than 63,000 members of the Church across the state, as well as the 125 congregations spanning Ohio.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
On June 1, 2024, Elder Vaiangina Sikahema lead the groundbreaking and site dedication, marking the official start of construction on this beautiful Temple. It’s a date many in the community are eagerly anticipating!
Temple Features & Design
Set to occupy an impressive 12.5-acre site at 5997 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio, this Temple will be the second temple in the state, joining the existing one in Cincinnati. The Cleveland Ohio Temple will feature a stunning 9,900 square feet of sacred space, complete with one instruction room, one sealing room, and a single baptistry.
The exterior will be adorned in elegant granite, giving it a timeless and majestic look. A single attached central spire will be a defining feature of the temple’s silhouette; however, it will notably be designed without a gold-leafed Angel Moroni atop, allowing for a more unique architectural statement.
Community Integration
Excitingly, the Cleveland Ohio Temple will share its parking lot with a meetinghouse, fostering a vibrant community hub where Temple patrons can work on Temple work.
Elevation and Location
Situated at an elevation of 733 feet, the Temple will not only be a spiritual haven but also a visually striking landmark. On July 25, 2023, a stunning rendering of the Temple was released, showcasing its elegant design and how it will seamlessly blend with the beautiful surroundings of Ohio.
