The Bentonville Arkansas Temple: A New Beacon of Faith
The Bentonville Arkansas Temple, a remarkable addition to the community and a significant spiritual site for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was officially dedicated on September 17, 2023. Announced by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 194th General Conference on October 5, 2019, this Temple marks the first temple in the state of Arkansas, and it is going to be a cornerstone to Temple work for members.
A Vision Realized
Located at 1105 McCollum Drive, Bentonville, Arkansas, the Bentonville Temple is built on a spacious 18.62-acre site. The impressive structure spans 28,472 square feet and is accentuated by a single attached central spire, standing at an elegant height of 111 feet, 8 inches. In a unique design choice, the Bentonville LDS Temple will not feature a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, setting it apart from other temples across the nation.
Released to the public on August 28, 2020, the Bentonville Arkansas Temple’s rendering introduced a stunning granite exterior that complements the surrounding landscape. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with native trees and shrubs, prominently featuring the dogwood tree—an homage to one of the first spring flowers of the region. This choice of vegetation not only enriches the setting but also enhances the temple’s overall aesthetic.
Inside the Sacred Space
The interior of the Bentonville Temple is a harmonious blend of beauty and tranquility. Upon entering, Temple patrons are greeted by bronze exterior doors, each adorned with an art glass panel, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The interior design features plush gold broadloom carpets and elegant decorative wood inlays that deftly incorporate motifs of the dogwood blossom, diamonds, and quilting patterns—a nod to the traditions and history of the area.
Key features of the Bentonville Arkansas Temple include two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry. The decorative light fixtures, made of glass, bronze, and crystal, cast a gentle glow throughout the sacred spaces, enhancing the spiritual ambiance.
The Bentonville Arkansas Temple’s stained glass windows are particularly noteworthy, with designs including the dogwood blossom and artistic sunbursts and diamonds, epitomizing the beauty of local flora and contributing to the temple’s sense of place.
Community Integration
The Bentonville Arkansas Temple also shares a parking lot with an adjacent meetinghouse, fostering a sense of community and accessibility. This integrated approach reflects the church’s commitment to serving its members and the community at large.
A Spiritual Milestone
Dedicated by Apostle David A. Bednar, the Bentonville Arkansas Temple stands as the 181st dedicated temple in the Church, symbolizing the growth and expansion of faith in the region. With its breathtaking architecture and purposeful design, it serves as a spiritual haven for many and a testament to the community’s faith.
As the temple opens its doors, it invites temple patrons to experience a space of temple work.
