A Bit of History
The journey to the creation of the Boston Massachusetts Temple began on September 30, 1995, when the announcement was made. Shortly after, on June 13, 1997, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place, led by Apostle Richard G. Scott. Fast forward to an exciting public open house from August 29 to September 23, 2000, where visitors had the opportunity to explore the temple before its official dedication.
On October 1, 2000, the temple was dedicated by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, marking a significant milestone for New England, as it became the first temple built in the region.
Design and Features
Standing at 139 feet tall on a wooded granite hillside, this 69,900 square-foot space is perched at an elevation of 331 feet, making it a notable sight along the Concord Turnpike. The exterior is elegantly finished with Olympia white granite, enhancing its majestic appearance.
One of the striking architectural features includes a single attached end spire, topped by a gold-leafed statue of Angel Moroni, which was added on September 21, 2011, after the temple’s dedication.
Inside, the temple is designed for various purposes, featuring four instructional rooms, four sealing rooms, and a single baptistry, thoughtfully accommodating those who visit.
