The announcement was followed by the groundbreaking and site dedication on May 15, 2021, conducted by Elder Brook P. Hales, a local General Authority. The anticipation for this significant construction grew as volunteers came together to assist with setup and preparation for the ceremony. Architectural Features
The Deseret Peak Utah Temple is constructed on 15.5 acres and encompasses 71,998 square feet, categorizing it as a medium Temple—situated between 40,000 and 80,000 square feet. While it is not classified as a large Temple, this does not diminish the sacred ordinances performed within its walls.
Standing proudly at a height of 182.8 feet and an elevation of 4,603 feet, the Temple features an exterior finished in glass fiber-reinforced concrete, giving it a modern aesthetic. While it lacks a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue at this time, it is designed to support one in the future, much like several other Temples that currently do not display this iconic feature.
Inside, the Temple boasts four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a centrally located baptistry, all thoughtfully arranged over three stories. The art glass windows showcase native flowers such as cliffrose and silvery lupine, reflecting the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Community Contribution
Adjacent to the Temple is a 20,000-square-foot meetinghouse, which serves as an additional resource for activities and gatherings. This cohesive layout ensures that both spaces can function effectively together, enriching the local area in more ways than one.
