The Deseret Peak Utah Temple, located at 2400 N 400 W in Tooele, Utah, stands as a remarkable testament to faith and dedication. This beautiful facility was announced on April 7, 2019, by President Russell M. Nelson, marking a significant milestone as the 200th Dedicated Temple.
A Historic Journey
Before the arrival of the Deseret Peak Utah Temple, the 100th Dedicated Temple was the Boston, Massachusetts Temple. The site for this new Temple was thoughtfully selected, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 15, 2021, led by Elder Brook P. Hales, a local General Authority. Finally, anticipation culminated in the dedication of the Temple by President Russell M. Nelson on November 10, 2024.
Covering 15.5 acres, the Temple includes a 20,000-square-foot meetinghouse, allowing space for various congregational activities. Constructed with glass fiber-reinforced concrete, the Temple features an elegant central tower. Although it does not currently have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, the design accommodates potential installation in the future.
Interior Features
Boasting an impressive interior spanning 71,998 square feet, this facility is classified as medium-sized, falling within the range of 40,000–80,000 square feet. It’s important to note that the size does not diminish the significance of the work and sacred ordinances performed within.
The layout includes four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a single baptistry, serving various needs and functions for the participants. The interior design showcases stunning art glass featuring native flowers from Tooele, such as cliffrose and silvery lupine, which add a local touch to the beautiful surroundings.
Location and Landscape
Perched at an elevation of 4,603 feet, the Deseret Peak Utah Temple rises to a height of 182.8 feet, providing a picturesque view of the landscape. This Temple is notably the 23rd addition to the state of Utah and holds the distinction of being the first in Tooele County.
