History and Development
The announcement of the Gilbert Arizona Temple was made on April 26, 2008, by the Prophet during a General Conference. Following this announcement, the groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on November 13, 2010, led by Elder Claudio R.M. Costa.
The Temple opened its doors to the public from January 18th to February 15th, 2014, and saw an impressive attendance of 407,020 individuals. The grand dedication took place on March 2, 2014, officiated by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, although the reading was performed by Henry B. Eyring.
Architectural Features
Spanning 15.38 acres, the Gilbert Arizona Temple features an exterior finished with precast concrete panels, providing a clean and elegant look. The architectural design includes a single attached end spire, topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue that was installed on May 15, 2012.
Dimensions and Layout
This Temple encompasses 85,326 square feet and rises to a height of 195 feet, situated at an elevation of 1,269 feet. It is laid out over five levels and is designed to accommodate various functions, featuring:
