A Historical Timeline
The journey to its completion began with groundbreaking on December 19, 1938, led by Elder David Smith. Following the diligent efforts of many, the dedication took place on October 19, 1940, a significant event presided over by Prophet David O. McKay. Over the decades, it has undergone transformations, the most notable being the recent renovations completed in June 2017, which included enhancements such as an additional exit from the Bride and Groom’s room and a spacious waiting area for weddings.
Architectural Features
Spanning 85,624 square feet and reaching a height of 156 feet, this site is built on 8.28 acres overlooking the scenic Snake River. The exterior is crafted from reinforced concrete with a unique white cement aggregate cast stone finish, giving it a striking appearance. A single attached central spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue stands as a defining feature of its architecture.
The interior boasts four instruction rooms, seven sealing rooms, and one baptistry, allowing for a variety of sacred experiences.

During the excavation, workers unearthed large lava rocks, which were cleverly incorporated into the basement walls. While the exterior was completed in 1941, internal finishing took longer due to the challenges posed by World War II.

Post-renovation, a waterfall feature replaced the original three reflection ponds that were once home to small fish and water lilies—changing the landscaping to highlight beautiful flowerbeds.
