Exciting Plans for the Salt Lake Temple Open House: What to Expect

The Salt Lake Temple Open House is just around the corner, and the anticipation is building! From April 5 to October 1, 2027, the doors will open to the public for an extensive tour of the renovated Salt Lake Temple. This event marks a significant milestone, as it has been over 130 years since the public could freely explore this iconic site in the heart of Salt Lake City.

What You Need to Know

During this six-month-long open house, millions are expected to visit. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is collaborating with local officials to ensure smooth access for all attendees. They are preparing extensively to manage the impressive influx of visitors, planning for anywhere from 3 million to 5 million guests throughout the open house period—equating to approximately 20,000 to 29,000 visitors daily!

By comparison, the city welcomed an estimated 70,000 visitors each day during the 2002 Winter Olympics, showcasing the scale of this upcoming event.

Ticket Information

If you’re eager to be part of this monumental event, mark your calendars! The church plans to release a dedicated app in late August or early September for booking tour times. This app will facilitate smooth scheduling, ensuring visitors can enjoy their time at the temple without hassle.

Transportation Options

To make your visit as seamless as possible, arrangements have been made with Utah Transit Authority (UTA) for ticket holders to utilize TRAX, Frontrunner, and bus services to reach downtown. Additionally, a lighted and secure park-and-ride lot will be available at South Temple and Redwood Road, including shuttle service to Temple Square.

To further alleviate any traffic concerns, church employees will receive free UTA passes for the duration of the event.

Touring the Temple

The tours will commence at the Conference Center, located just north of Temple Square, before taking visitors underground to the temple itself. Expect the guided experience to last 60 to 80 minutes, showcasing the incredible renovations and new features.

Special missionaries will be invited to serve as docents during the open house, providing invaluable insights and assistance to guests throughout their visits. Once inside the perimeter, guests will also have access to Temple Square’s stunning new statues and other church facilities, making the entire visit an enriching experience that could last several hours.

Previews for Local Residents

As part of the preparations, the church is also extending an invitation to nearby businesses and residents to tour the temple in March 2027, prior to the public opening. This sneak peek will ensure that members of the local area can experience the beauty and history of the temple firsthand.

Plan Ahead

With these exciting events on the horizon, be sure to plan your visit in advance. The Salt Lake Temple open house promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with history and beauty, welcoming all who wish to partake in this momentous occasion. Stay tuned for more updates as the opening day approaches!
