Anticipating the Salt Lake Temple Open House
Excitement is building as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announces plans for the Salt Lake Temple Open House, slated for next year. This extraordinary event will grant the public access to the revamped Salt Lake Temple, allowing guests to explore this cherished site from April 5 to October 1, 2027, before it closes to the public.
What to Expect
Visitors can look forward to immersive tours of the Salt Lake Temple, which has undergone seismic upgrades and extensive renovations since its closure on January 1, 2020. It’s been over 130 years since the public last had the opportunity to experience its beauty from the inside. This open house is expected to be the largest in the church’s history, with estimates of 3 million to 5 million visitors attending throughout the six-month duration—averaging between 20,000 to 29,000 daily.
To prepare for this influx, Salt Lake City and the Church of Jesus Christ are collaborating on a comprehensive plan to manage the crowds. Given the scale of this event, the team is planning for larger numbers to ensure a smooth experience for all attendees.
A Historic Celebration
The open house will coincide with the church’s semi-annual general conference, which occurs every April and October. In celebration of Easter, visitors will also notice festive displays adorning Temple Square, adding to the overall atmosphere during this time of renewal and exploration.
Ticket Information and Transportation
For those eager to attend the Salt Lake Temple tours, tickets will be available via a newly launched app in late August or early September 2027. To facilitate travel to and from downtown, arrangements have been made with UTA, allowing ticket holders to use TRAX, FrontRunner, and local bus services. Additionally, a designated park-and-ride lot at South Temple and Redwood Road will provide secure parking with regular shuttle service to Temple Square.
In a bid to manage downtown traffic effectively, church employees will receive complimentary UTA passes during the six-month open house period. Local businesses and residents will also be invited for a special preview tour in March 2027, providing them with an exclusive glimpse before the public opening.
The Tour Experience
The tour will commence at the church’s Conference Center, transitioning underground to the temple itself. Expect the tour to last between 60 to 80 minutes, led by specially called missionaries who will serve as docents and guide visitors through this amazing experience. Access to Temple Square and its newly installed statues will also be included, enriching the entire visit, which could span several hours.
As anticipation builds for this monumental occasion, keep an eye out for updates on ticket availability and additional details about the open house experience. This is an extraordinary opportunity to explore a vital part of Salt Lake City’s heritage while celebrating the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
