Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple: What we know so far
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is a major new temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints under construction in Provo, Utah. Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, the project represents one of the largest temple builds in the region and will be the sixth temple in the state of Utah.
Location and site

- The temple sits at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level.
- The building will be constructed on a 17-acre site. (By comparison, the previous property associated with the earlier temple footprint was about 15 acres after removal of the road at the front of the older temple site.)
Size, design, and exterior
- Total floor area: approximately 163,000 square feet — making it a large temple by contemporary standards.
- Overall height: about 81 meters (265 feet 6 inches).
- Exterior material: granite cladding for a durable, classic temple appearance.
- The design features a single attached central spire. The temple will not include a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue on that spire; the existing Angel Moroni from the previous temple is currently in storage.
Parking and neighboring church facilities
- The new temple will not share a parking lot with a meetinghouse. A meetinghouse parking lot is located off to the corner across the street from the temple site.
Key dates and timeline

- Official renaming: The project was previously referred to as the “Provo Utah Temple” and was renamed “Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple” on February 20, 2024.
