LDS Temple News Shares the rendering of the Springfield Missouri Temple
Mark your calendars! The Springfield Missouri Temple is about to become reality, with an exciting groundbreaking ceremony set for Saturday, June 6, 2026. Elder Aroldo B. Cavalcante of the United States Southeast Area Presidency will lead this momentous occasion.
A Homecoming to Sacred Ground
Missouri holds profound significance in Church history—it’s where early Latter-day Saints laid the spiritual foundations of Zion itself. Fast forward to today, and the state is thriving with over 84,000 Church members worshipping across approximately 180 congregations. The Springfield temple represents something truly special: it will be the third house of the Lord in Missouri, joining the beloved Kansas City and St. Louis temples.
From Vision to Reality
When President Nelson announced this temple in April 2023, he shared an inspiring message that still resonates: “Whatever questions or problems you have, the answer is always found in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.” His call to deepen our understanding of the Atonement, love, and restored gospel continues to inspire this monumental project.
What Makes a Temple So Special?
Unlike Sunday chapels, temples are sacred “houses of the Lord” where miracles happen. They’re sanctuaries where members find peace, discover life’s purpose, and make eternal covenants—most importantly, ensuring families can be sealed together forever. It’s where healing and spiritual progression become tangible realities.
