The journey began on April 4, 2021, when President Russell M. Nelson announced plans for the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple. Following this announcement, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 29, 2022, presided over by Elder Valeri V. Cordón.
Preparations for the public open house are scheduled to start on April 23, 2026, leading up to its dedicated service on June 7, 2026. On June 7, 2026, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will oversee the dedication at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast available at 2:00 p.m.
Key Features of the Temple
The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple will feature a single attached central spire, along with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry. The floral design inside the Temple showcases the beauty of Dogwood and Laurel flowers, enhancing its serene atmosphere.
The Temple will be the third house of the Lord in Oregon, following the existing Temples in Medford and Portland. There are currently over 154,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state, who are served by more than 300 congregations.
