The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple is an exciting addition to the spiritual landscape of Oregon. Official preparations for the public open house began on April 23, with the dedication planned for June 7, 2026. This Temple will play a significant role for the 154,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state.
Willamette Valley Oregon Temple Instruction Room
On April 4, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson announced the plans for the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple. This announcement marked a new chapter in the history of Latter-day Saints in Oregon, where settlers first arrived in 1887. The state is currently home to more than 300 congregations, making it a vibrant area for Latter-day Saint activities. The Temple is positioned at 3701 Corporate Way, Springfield, on a 10.5-acre site, providing ample space for its dedicated functions.
Architectural Features
The design of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple showcases a single attached central spire that rises 120 feet high, reaching an elevation of 429 feet. Covering a total area of 30,000 square feet, the Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry. These elements are key to fulfilling its purpose within the faith.
Groundbreaking and Floral Design
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 29, 2022, presided over by Elder Valeri V. Cordón. Reflecting the natural beauty of the area, the floral design throughout the Temple features Dogwood and Laurel flowers, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
Upcoming Events Leading to Dedication
A media day was arranged for April 20, 2026, where invited guests will tour the Temple on April 21 and 22. Following this, the public open house will run from April 23 to May 9, excluding Sundays, allowing many to experience its beauty before the official dedication.
Dedication Ceremony
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple on June 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast at 2:00 p.m. This event is highly anticipated within the Latter-day Saint community in Oregon.
A New Chapter for Oregon
With the addition of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple, Oregon will be home to three houses of the Lord. The existing Temples in Medford and Portland will continue to serve the needs of local Latter-day Saints.
