The journey to this momentous occasion began on April 4, 2021, when the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the plans for the Temple during the 191st Annual General Conference. After much anticipation, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 17, 2023, presided over by Elder Juan A. Uceda. The event was attended by 500 guests, who shared in the dedication of the site with heartfelt prayers for the region. Elder Uceda’s words resonated deeply, as he sought divine protection for the community and expressed hopes for the Temple’s timely completion.
Set on an expansive 11.8 acres at an elevation of 2,740 feet, the design of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple features a striking single attached central tower with a pyramid roof. Unlike many others, it does not feature a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, distinguishing its architectural presence. With a total area of 27,000 square feet, the Temple will house two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, providing varied services to its members.
The Temple’s rendering was revealed to the public on September 23, 2021, igniting excitement and curiosity about what it will bring to the region. The eagerly awaited open house is scheduled from June 13, 2026, to June 27, 2026, offering a chance for the surrounding community to explore its sacred spaces before the dedication on August 16, 2026.
As the 12th Temple to be established in Brazil, the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple holds special significance as the first in the state of Minas Gerais. This milestone comes as the Church continues to expand, with over 1.4 million members and more than 2,100 congregations across the nation.
