The San Diego California Temple stands as the 45th dedicated Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This remarkable site is a blend of stunning architectural design and spiritual significance.
A Brief History
The San Diego California Temple was announced to the public on April 7, 1984, generating excitement and anticipation in the region. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on February 27, 1988, led by the Prophet Ezra Taft Benson.
Construction and Design
Situated on 7.2 acres, the Temple covers a total area of 72,000 square feet and reaches a remarkable height of 169 feet, with an elevation of 338 feet. Its exterior is a distinctive finish of marble chips in plaster. The architectural design features two main towers flanked by four smaller spires, crowned by a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, making it an impressive sight against the San Diego skyline.
Facilities
Inside, the San Diego California Temple is equipped with four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and one baptistry, providing various spaces for different purposes within the faith.
Future Events
The public open house for the San Diego California Temple is scheduled from June 18, 2026, through July 11, 2026, excluding Sundays. This occasion allows for greater insight into the beauty and function of this significant site. Following this, the Temple will be re-dedicated on August 23, 2026, marking another important milestone.
