Star Valley Wyoming Temple by LDS Temple News

The Star Valley Wyoming Temple holds a significant place in the heart of Afton, Wyoming. As the 154th Temple in operation, this beautiful site serves as a focal point for many.

Announcement and Groundbreaking

The journey to the Star Valley Wyoming Temple began on October 1, 2011, when it was announced during General Conference by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. The local community eagerly anticipated this development, which symbolizes faith and spiritual commitment.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 25, 2015, led by Craig C. Christensen. This event marked a new chapter in the area’s spiritual history.

The Public Open House and Dedication

From September 23 to October 8, 2016, the Temple held a public open house. During this time, approximately 78,000 people toured the building, showcasing its beauty and significance to the region.

The Temple was dedicated on October 30, 2016, by Apostle David A. Bednar. In his dedicatory prayer, he expressed profound love and devotion, emphasizing the importance of family and righteousness: “Father, our words cannot express the smallest part of the love we have for Thee and Thy Beloved Son. Our strong desires are for righteousness and purity. We yearn to return to Thee with our families, sealed together for time and for all of eternity. This day our devotion is deepened, and our commitment to Thy eternal purposes is strengthened.”

Design and Features

Built on 43.6 acres, the Star Valley Wyoming Temple features precast concrete paneling on its exterior. A striking architectural highlight is the single attached end spire, topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which was placed on the Temple on April 25, 2016.

Interior Spaces

Inside, the Temple encompasses 18,609 square feet and includes one instruction room, one sealing room, and a single baptistry. The building reaches a height of 123 feet, with its elevation standing at 6,218 feet.

Unique Elements

One of the most captivating elements of the Temple is the stained glass in the foyer, which depicts Jesus Christ. This artwork originally came from a Presbyterian Church in New York City, adding a unique historical touch to the interior.

A Historic First for Wyoming

The Star Valley Wyoming Temple holds the distinction of being the first building of its kind in Wyoming, setting the stage for the Casper Wyoming Temple to follow later. Its establishment marks an important milestone in the religious landscape of the state.

In conclusion, the Star Valley Wyoming Temple stands as a testament to faith and dedication, serving not only as a place for individual reflection but also as a significant addition to the spiritual heritage of Wyoming.
