Discovering the Smithfield Utah Temple

The Smithfield Utah Temple stands as a transformative presence in northern Cache Valley. Located at 755 West 100 North, Smithfield, UT 84335, this new addition significantly enriches the spiritual landscape of the area.

A Glimpse into History

Announced on April 4, 2021, during the 191st General Conference by Prophet Russell M. Nelson, the Smithfield Utah Temple was one of 20 Temples introduced that day. Following its announcement, the groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on June 18, 2022. Apostle Quentin L. Cook, who conducted the ceremony, described the valley surrounded by majestic mountains as “among the most beautiful places on earth.” This occasion also included Apostle Gary E. Stevenson and other general leaders.

Architectural Highlights

The Smithfield Utah Temple occupies 13.3 acres and features a remarkable architectural design, including two attached end towers and an arched, colonnaded façade topped with tall domed cupolas. This three-story Temple spans 81,000 square feet, making it one of the larger Temples in Utah, which is home to 26 Temples in total.

Interior Layout and Design

Inside, the Temple is thoughtfully structured with four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and two baptistries. Each facility is designed with purpose, enhancing the overall experience for those who participate.

Unique Features

The grounds are specially designed to face south, optimizing winter sun exposure to aid in melting snow, ensuring accessibility throughout the year.

A Beacon of Light

During the dedicatory prayer, Apostle Quentin L. Cook expressed gratitude for those who laid the groundwork. He emphasized the hope that the Temple will serve as a beacon light for the areas it reaches.

As the first Temple established in Smithfield and the second in Cache Valley, the Smithfield Utah Temple represents a significant milestone for the area and its residents. At an elevation of 4,506 feet, it not only serves local Church members but also resonates throughout Utah, where approximately 2.1 million members account for roughly two-thirds of the state’s population.
