Discovering the Taylorsville Utah Temple

The Taylorsville Utah Temple is the 192nd dedicated Temple in operation, an emblem of architectural beauty and spiritual significance. Located at 2603 W 4700 S, Taylorsville, Utah 84129, this remarkable Temple finds its roots in the community’s history and dedication to faith.

Timeline of Development

The journey of the Taylorsville Utah Temple began when it was announced on December 11, 2019. This significant event was heralded by the Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 189th General Conference on October 5, 2019. The layout of the Temple was ingeniously designed to be built over an existing meetinghouse and recreation field, allowing the community’s heritage to remain at the forefront.

The groundbreaking took place on October 31, 2020, led by Apostle Gerrit W. Gong. He beautifully stated, “Grateful roots and wings, we come as one from across our generations… one in heart and mind.” The public open house occurred from April 13, 2024, through May 18, 2024, where over 265,000 individuals explored the interior. The official dedication was held on June 2, 2024, also performed by Apostle Gerrit W. Gong.

Architectural Features

Architecturally, the Taylorsville Utah Temple is designed in the esteemed pioneer-era Gothic style. The exterior is crafted from structural steel and stone cladding, characterized by a unique octagonal tower that lacks a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. This Temple stands on 7.5 acres and reaches a height of 219.9 feet at an elevation of 4,335 feet.

A Closer Look at Interior and Exterior

The beautiful design elements are complemented by intricate exterior artwork. Flowers depicted in the art glass are stylized versions of local wildflowers, such as the bird’s-foot trefoil and “red beauty” bergenia. The deep burgundy, lavender, and gold color scheme draws inspiration from Gothic architecture while reflecting the natural tones found in the west side of the valley.

Landscaping Details

The landscaping is a true testament to thoughtful design. It features annuals, shrub beds, and turf areas, lined with evergreen and deciduous trees. Nearly half of the landscape is planted over structural elements, utilizing drought-resistant plants and an efficient drip irrigation system to enhance water-wise principles.

Interior Design Elements

As guests step inside, they are greeted by a 73,492 square-foot interior featuring a harmonious mix of modern and traditional touches. Flooring choices include a variety of materials like carpets, stone, and tile, with colors that match the exterior’s aesthetic.

Custom Finishes

The decorative painting inside the Temple gently highlights the architecture, using simple and elegant motifs. Various shades of Sherwin-Williams paint are utilized throughout, including the soft gold and lavender broadloom carpets in general areas.

Architectural Variety

Walls are framed with diverse finishes, and many rooms boast wood columns and pilasters to enhance spatial dynamics. Custom-designed vinyl wall coverings provide a unique touch, adding to the Temple’s overall elegance.

Facilities Offered

The Taylorsville Utah Temple consists of four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry, designed to serve its intended purpose. A two-level parking garage offers convenient access, and various lighting fixtures crafted from acrylic and cast bronze enhance the interior atmosphere.
