The announcement of the Victoria British Columbia Temple has sparked excitement and anticipation within the Latter-day Saint community. This will be the eleventh Temple in Canada and the second in British Columbia.

Announcement Details

The announcement was made by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 194th General Conference on April 7, 2024. At that time, Canada was home to over 200,000 Latter-day Saints across nearly 500 congregations. The existing Temples in the country included the Calgary Alberta Temple, Cardston Alberta Temple, Edmonton Alberta Temple, Halifax Nova Scotia Temple, Montreal Quebec Temple, Regina Saskatchewan Temple, Toronto Ontario Temple, Vancouver British Columbia Temple, and Winnipeg Manitoba Temple. Additionally, the Lethbridge Alberta Temple had been announced during the April 2023 General Conference.

Groundbreaking and Construction

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for August 22, 2026, and will be presided over by Elder James E. Evanson from the Canada Area Presidency. The site, located on Mantle Heights Road in Langford, British Columbia, spans 4.47 acres and is positioned at an elevation of 338 feet.

Architectural Features

The Victoria British Columbia Temple will feature a striking exterior finish of granite and will include a single attached end spire. Notably, it will not have a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. With a total area of 11,400 square feet, the Temple is designed to include one or two instructional rooms (exact numbers yet to be announced), three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Additionally, this facility is planned as a single story.

Timeline and Approval

The Langford City Council approved the zoning bylaw for the Temple site on September 15, 2025. A rendering of the exterior was released on June 22, 2026, providing a glimpse of what this remarkable addition will look like.

Community Context

Before the announcement, British Columbia had approximately 31,000 Latter-day Saints among 73 congregations, with the closest Temple being the Vancouver British Columbia Temple, located about 60 miles away.

The establishment of the Victoria British Columbia Temple will provide additional opportunities for members of this faith to engage in spiritual learning and connection, enhancing their experience in British Columbia. The anticipation surrounding its construction reflects the hopes and dreams of many within the local community.
