Street Map of the Victoria British Columbia Temple
The Victoria British Columbia Temple, poised to become the eleventh in Canada, is a significant addition to the religious landscape of the region. Announced by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 194th General Conference on April 7, 2024, this temple represents a new milestone for Latter-day Saints in British Columbia.
Location and Details
Situated on Mantle Heights Road in Langford, British Columbia, the temple will occupy a sprawling 4.47 acres. It will be built at an elevation of 338 feet and encompass 11,400 square feet, designed thoughtfully to serve the spiritual needs of the community.
Architectural Features
The exterior finish of the Victoria British Columbia Temple will feature elegant granite, complemented by a single attached end spire. Notably, it will not include a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, setting it apart from many of its counterparts.
Interior Spaces
Inside, the temple is planned to include one or two instructional rooms, accommodating the unique requirements of its size. It will also house three sealing rooms and one baptistry, enhancing its ability to facilitate various spiritual experiences.
Timeline and Development
The groundbreaking and site dedication are set to occur on August 22, 2026, with Elder James E. Evanson of the Canada Area Presidency presiding over the ceremony. Prior to this, the zoning bylaw necessary for the temple site was approved by the Langford City Council on September 15, 2025.
A Growing Presence
At the time of the temple’s announcement, the area was home to about 31,000 Latter-day Saints across 73 congregations. This temple will not only serve local members but also help reduce the distance for those traveling to the nearest existing temple, which is the Vancouver British Columbia Temple, located approximately 60 miles away.
The Bigger Picture
With over 211,000 Latter-day Saints in Canada, meeting across around 500 congregations, the Victoria British Columbia Temple reflects the growth and commitment of the faith in the region. Throughout Canada, dedicated temples include the Calgary Alberta Temple, Cardston Alberta Temple, Edmonton Alberta Temple, Halifax Nova Scotia Temple, Montreal Quebec Temple, Regina Saskatchewan Temple, Toronto Ontario Temple, and Winnipeg Manitoba Temple, alongside the under-construction Lethbridge Alberta Temple.
In summary, the Victoria British Columbia Temple is set to become a cornerstone for the Latter-day Saint faith in British Columbia, enriching the spiritual lives of its members and standing testament to the dedication of its community.
