The announcement for the Hamburg Germany Temple was made public on April 2, 2023, during the April General Conference by Prophet Russell M. Nelson. This momentous occasion marks a significant development for Latter-day Saints, especially considering that there were nearly 40,000 members and approximately 150 wards across Germany at the time of the announcement.

• The Hamburg Germany Temple will stand on 1.4 acres and is situated at an elevation of 26 feet.
• It is noteworthy that this will be the first Temple constructed in Germany since reunification. Prior establishments include the Freiberg Germany Temple, which was dedicated in East Germany, and the Frankfurt Germany Temple, dedicated in West Germany.
• Jacob Zundel is recognized as the first German convert, joining the Church in Kirtland, Ohio, in 1836, marking the genesis of Latter-day Saint history in the region.

A Glimpse into the Past

Short-lived efforts to share the restored gospel in Germany began in the 1830s. By 1851, George P. Dykes arrived and is credited with baptizing the first two converts in Germany on September 15, 1851. The presence of Elder John Taylor in the same year further advanced the work; he collaborated with Dykes in Hamburg to supervise the translation of the Book of Mormon into German, which was published in May 1852.

Growth of the Faith

In the fall of 1961, the establishment of three stakes in Berlin, Stuttgart, and Hamburg indicated significant growth. Today, there are over 40,000 Latter-day Saints living in Germany.
