A Journey Through Time
Announcement and Groundbreaking
The journey of the Tijuana Mexico Temple began on October 2, 2010, when it was announced by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during General Conference. Following this announcement, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on August 18, 2012, led by Benjamin De Hoyos. Approximately 2,000 people gathered to witness this important event.
The Open House Event
From October 13th to 28th, 2015, the Temple opened its doors to the public in a much-anticipated open house. Over 70,000 guests toured the Temple, getting a firsthand look at this stunning facility before its dedication.
Dedication Day
The dedication of the Tijuana Mexico Temple occurred on December 13, 2015, led by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. In a heartfelt message, he expressed gratitude, stating, “As we approach Thee in prayer, O God our Eternal Father, we lift our voices in thanksgiving and love on this historic day to dedicate the Tijuana Mexico Temple unto Thee.”

Design and Aesthetics
Spanning an impressive 33,367 square feet, the Tijuana Mexico Temple was built on 9.4 acres. Its exterior is characterized by precast concrete cladding, featuring a beautiful blend of frosted gold and clear glass, complemented by green terracotta accents. A stunning fountain, crafted from precast concrete and local cantera stone, adds to the architectural elegance while incorporating traditional Mexican hand-painted tile, reflecting the hacienda style.
Interior Details
Inside, the Temple is a feast for the eyes. Marble staircases, wrought iron railings, and dark wooden doors highlight luxury and craftsmanship. The flooring includes stone sourced from China, Spain, and Italy, while vibrant, patterned tiles adorn various spaces. Original artwork, including murals in the instruction rooms, evokes the region’s desert and coastal landscapes.

The interior design features rugs painted with Spanish colonial patterns, and decorative elements include a beautiful Bougainvillea motif that mirrors the landscaping outside.
