Announcement and Construction of the Tijuana Mexico Temple
The journey toward the Tijuana Mexico Temple began with an announcement made by Prophet Thomas S. Monson on October 2, 2010, during General Conference. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on August 18, 2012, led by Benjamin De Hoyos, with approximately 2,000 attendees.
The construction culminated in a public open house from October 13th to 28th, 2015, where around 70,000 guests toured the premises. The Temple was ultimately dedicated on December 13, 2015, by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. In his dedication, Uchtdorf expressed gratitude, stating, “As we approach Thee in prayer, O God our Eternal Father, we lift our voices in thanksgiving and love on this historic day to dedicate the Tijuana Mexico Temple unto Thee. The Tijuana Mexico Temple covers an area of 33,367 square feet and reaches a height of 151 feet. It is set upon 9.4 acres of carefully landscaped land, sitting at an elevation of 172 feet.

The exterior design features precast concrete cladding, blending frosted gold and textured glass with accents of green terracotta. A fountain, constructed from precast concrete and local cantera stone, showcases hand-painted Mexican tiles that echo the hacienda architectural style of the Temple.

The interior boasts exquisite marble staircases, wrought iron railings, and rich dark wooden doors. Colorful patterned tiles and stone flooring enrich the ambiance, complemented by unique murals in the instruction rooms that reflect the region’s natural beauty.
