Twin Falls Idaho Temple Photography reported by LDS Temple News

Welcome to the Twin Falls Idaho Temple, the 128th dedicated Temple in operation. Nestled at 1405 Eastland Dr N in Twin Falls, Idaho, this magnificent site is situated just south of the Snake River Canyon, standing as the highest point in the region.

A Design Inspired by Nature

The design of the Twin Falls Idaho Temple is influenced by the nearby Shoshone Falls, located just a short 5-mile drive from the Temple. The exterior features a waterfall theme that is evident in its walls, stained-glass windows, and the beautiful landscaping that includes two waterfall features at the entrance. Constructed concurrently, a meetinghouse to the west mirrors the architectural elegance of the Temple.

Key Features of the Twin Falls Idaho Temple

  • Announcement and Groundbreaking: The Twin Falls Idaho Temple was announced to the public on October 2, 2004, by the Prophet during the General Conference. The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on April 15, 2005, officiated by Apostle Neil L. Anderson.
  • Public Open House: An extensive public open house took place from July 11, 2008, to August 16, 2008, with an impressive total of 159,863 attendees exploring the Temple’s interior.

Architectural Highlights

  • Size and Elevation: The Twin Falls Idaho Temple occupies 9.1 acres and measures 31,245 square feet. Its impressive height reaches 152 feet, 10 inches, seated at an elevation of 3,676 feet.
  • Elegant Features: The Temple is adorned with a single attached end spire crowned by a gold-leafed statue of the Angel Moroni. The exterior is finished with precast concrete panels featuring a quartz rock finish, while the interior showcases African wood doors and elegant antiqued brass fittings.

Art and Light

  • Stained Glass: The exterior art glass is composed of a Syringa motif, reflecting the local flora, and consists of 12,000 art glass pieces across 200 window panes. This motif, created by Utah artist Tom Holdman, is featured throughout the Temple and honors Idaho’s state flower.
  • Murals and Light Fixtures: Breathtaking murals by Idaho artist Leon Parson depict local landscapes, including the majestic Shoshone Falls. The interior light fixtures, designed with bronze, crystal, and glass, enhance the serene ambiance, with many chandeliers sparkling to symbolize purity.

Unique Aspects of the Twin Falls Idaho Temple

The Twin Falls Idaho Temple is the first Temple built in the city of Twin Falls and within Twin Falls County. It is the fourth Temple constructed in Idaho, following others in Idaho Falls, Boise, and Rexburg.

Special Design Elements:

  • Instruction and Sealing Rooms: The Temple features two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry.
  • Refined Materials: Constructed with the finest materials, including wood from Africa, granite from India, and stone from Montana, every detail was meticulously selected. The exterior walls consist of 282 precast concrete panels mined in Washington state, weighing up to 30 tons.

The Spirit of Dedication

During its dedication, the Prophet Thomas S. Monson offered a prayer, expressing a desire for the Temple to inspire peace in all who observe its majesty and serve those fulfilling sacred commitments for their loved ones.

In conclusion, the Twin Falls Idaho Temple is not only an architectural wonder but also a place infused with inspiration, beauty, and local significance. Its design, materials, and artistic contributions reflect a deep connection to the state of Idaho and its natural surroundings.
