Nestled in the heart of Brigham City, Utah, the Brigham City Utah Temple stands as the 139th dedicated Temple in operation, showcasing stunning architecture and a deep connection to the community’s heritage. Located at 250 S Main St, Brigham City, Utah 84302, this captivating building has become a prominent feature of the local landscape.
A Brief History
The journey of the Brigham City Utah Temple began on October 3, 2009, when it was announced by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the 179th Semiannual General Conference. Excitement around this announcement was palpable, leading to the groundbreaking and site dedication on July 31, 2010, conducted by Apostle Boyd K. Packer.
From August 15 to September 15, 2012, the public had the opportunity to explore the Temple during an open house, which set the stage for its dedication on September 23, 2012, also led by Apostle Boyd K. Packer.
Architectural Features
The Brigham City Utah Temple spans 36,000 square feet and stands 165 feet high, impressively perched at an elevation of 4,454 feet. Covering 3.14 acres, the design features precast concrete limestone that adds to its elegant exterior.
One standout characteristic is the two attached end spires that grace the Temple. Atop one of these spires sits a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which was installed in a remarkable 50 minutes, witnessed by an audience of approximately 5,000 people.
The Temple also includes two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry, allowing for a variety of sacred ceremonies and teachings to occur within its walls.
Accessibility and Parking
This Temple is unique in that it does not have a meetinghouse in the same parking lot, offering a more serene environment. Ample parking is available; there are 123 surface stalls, 29 street stalls, and 130 underground stalls accessible via the west side of the building.
A Nod to History
Interestingly, the Brigham City Utah Temple is built on land that once housed an old school, which was demolished prior to the Temple’s construction. Its location directly across the street from the Box Elder Tabernacle adds a layer of historical significance to the area.
