Discovering the Columbus Ohio Temple: A Glimpse into Its Beauty and Importance

Located at 3870 Gateway Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43228, the Columbus Ohio Temple stands as the 60th dedicated Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its impressive journey began on April 25, 1998, when the announcement was made, igniting anticipation in the local area.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on September 12, 1998, was led by Elder John K. Carmack, marking an important milestone for this exquisite addition to the community. Fast forward to April 29th to May 13th, 2023, when a public open house allowed many to explore the beauty within its walls. The rededication of this remarkable space took place on June 4, 2023, officiated by Apostle M. Russell Ballard.

Covering an area of 5 acres, this stunning edifice is crafted with exquisite white Spanish marble and granite, sourced directly from Spain. The architectural design features a single, gracefully attached spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, adding to the Temple’s visual splendor.

Inside, the Columbus Ohio Temple stretches across 11,745 square feet and includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. An impressive height of 77 feet elevates this remarkable space, which is situated at an elevation of 858 feet. Notably, the Temple is just 150 miles south of Kirtland, Ohio, making it a significant site for many.

Complementing the Temple, a meetinghouse can be found in the same parking lot, fostering a sense of connection. As the second Temple built in Ohio, it plays an essential role in the area’s spiritual landscape.

In a fascinating detail, the Angel Moroni statue that adorns the Temple was reinstalled on December 9, 2021, with a change in orientation. Formerly facing east, it now looks southwest, overseeing the Temple entrance.

The beauty of the surrounding grounds is enhanced by landscaped features, including vibrant pink magnolia blossoms—a theme echoed in the Temple’s stained glass windows. Boxwood, juniper, magnolias, red sunset maple, and Eastern redbud trees coalesce to create an inviting environment.

Inside, the color palette of the stonework is a blend of beige and gold, exuding warmth and tranquility. The Columbus Ohio Temple represents not only architectural excellence but also a meaningful testament to faith and devotion within the community.
