The journey towards the establishment of the Des Moines Iowa Temple began on April 7, 2024, when it was announced by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 194th General Conference. Following the announcement, important planning and approval phases took place. The chosen site for this remarkable edifice is located at 9050 NW 62nd Avenue, Johnston, Iowa, 50131. This prime location is set to serve a growing population.
Architectural Features
The architectural design of the Des Moines Iowa Temple features a single attached spire, creating an elegant silhouette against the Iowa skyline. Notably, there is no gold leafed angel moroni, distinguishing it from other Temples. With a total area of around 18,850 square feet, this Temple is designed to accommodate various functions.
Site Specifications
Complementing its architectural design, the Des Moines Iowa Temple will occupy approximately 19.57 acres of land. Sitting at an elevation of 914 feet, it offers a unique vantage point over the surrounding area. At the time of its announcement, there were around 29,000 members of the church in the vicinity, organized into 70 congregations.
Rendering Release
On December 23, 2024, the exterior rendering of the Des Moines Iowa Temple was made public, generating excitement and anticipation among potential attendees. However, as of now, there has been no groundbreaking or site dedication date set for this significant endeavor.
