The groundbreaking ceremony for the Fort Worth Texas Temple on October 28, 2023, marks a pivotal moment in the development of a new spiritual hub for the community. Presided over by Elder Jose L. Alonso, a General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the North America Southwest Area Presidency, the event served to emphasize the collective gratitude felt for the teachings of Jesus Christ. Elder Alonso’s dedicatory prayer highlighted the transformative power of faith, stating, “Our hearts are full of appreciation for the treasured gift of Thy Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. His divine mission offers hope and purpose.”
This new temple is designed to be an architectural gem, as showcased in the official exterior rendering released on October 31, 2022. It will feature a striking central spire, harmonizing with the surrounding landscape. With plans for approximately 30,000 square feet of worship space on a 9.37-acre site, located just north of SW Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive in Burleson, this temple will significantly enhance the community’s spiritual infrastructure.
Announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2021 General Conference, the Fort Worth Texas Temple will be the sixth temple in Texas and serve the state’s large population of over 360,000 Latter-day Saints. Its location in Fort Worth, strategically positioned northwest of Dallas at an elevation of 768 feet, adds to the appeal of the area, promising picturesque views and an inviting atmosphere for worshippers.
The anticipated features of the temple, including areas for instruction and sealing, will provide essential spaces for spiritual learning and family unity. When compared to the nearby Fort Collins Colorado Temple—which offers two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry—it’s clear that the Fort Worth Texas Temple is poised to meet the needs of its congregants and foster a thriving community.
As construction progresses, this new temple stands to create opportunities for faith-based activities, communal gatherings, and personal growth, thus enriching the lives of those in the Fort Worth area and beyond. The establishment of this temple is not just about building a structure; it is about cultivating a center of faith and support for all who seek solace and community within its walls.
