The groundbreaking ceremony for the Fort Worth Texas Temple occurred on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Elder Jose L. Alonso, a General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the North America Southwest Area Presidency, presided over the event. In his dedicatory prayer, Elder Alonso expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “Our hearts are full of appreciation for the treasured gift of Thy Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. His divine mission offers hope and purpose. Through His atonement, we find comfort during difficult times, and through His grace, we are empowered with strength and encouragement to serve our neighbors.” This moment underscored the significance of the temple within the community.
The official exterior rendering of the Fort Worth Texas Temple was revealed to the public on October 31, 2022, showcasing its inviting and charming architectural design. The temple is planned to cover approximately 9.37 acres, located just north of SW Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive in Burleson. The design includes a single-story structure that is around 30,000 square feet, providing ample space for worship and community activities.
The announcement to construct this temple was made by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2021 General Conference, marking it as the sixth temple in Texas, a state with over 360,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fort Worth is situated northwest of Dallas in north central Texas, making it a strategic location for the newly built temple, which aims to serve the spiritual needs of the local community.
Additionally, the Fort Worth Texas Temple will be positioned at an elevation of 768 feet, enhancing the region’s natural beauty. For context, the nearby Fort Collins Colorado Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, setting a standard for the features expected in the Fort Worth facility. As the community awaits its completion, the Fort Worth Texas Temple is set to become a vital center for worship and connection in the area.
