The journey of the Fresno California Temple began on January 8, 1999, when the First Presidency, which included Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust, announced its establishment. Just a few months later, on March 20, 1999, John B. Dickson officiated the groundbreaking and site dedication.
Following the completion, an open house was conducted from March 25 to April 4, 2000, attracting 51,000 attendees eager to explore the new Temple. The culmination of this effort took place on April 9, 2000, when President Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the Temple with these words: “This is a sacred place. It is a house of the Lord.”

Design and Construction
Standing on 2.34 acres, the Fresno California Temple encompasses an area of 10,850 square feet and reaches a height of 71 feet, set at an elevation of 319 feet. Characterized by its White Sierra granite exterior, quarried in Raymond, California, the Temple features architectural attributes that reflect classical aesthetics.
An eye-catching single attached end spire crowns the design, adorned by a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. Its windows consist of simple geometric patterns in a grid-style, featuring a series of small, concentric circular accents. These vertically oriented art-glass windows are arranged in groups of three on each wall and enhance the beauty of the Temple while harmonizing with its sophisticated façade.
Interior Highlights
Inside, the Fresno California Temple showcases beautifully crafted elements. Elegant, high-end light fixtures, including crystal chandeliers in the Celestial Room, complement the decor. The interior doors are made of Cherry wood, with brass and nickel hardware, exuding elegance throughout the space.
One notable artwork includes an original landscape by Clark Kelley Price, inspired by a spiritual vision, prominently displayed near the recommend desk. A second local piece depicts a vineyard, illustrating the area’s unique heritage.
