LDS Temple News Presents Fresno California Temple a House of the Lord
The Fresno California Temple was announced to the public on January 8, 1999, through a letter from the First Presidency to priesthood leaders across California. At that time, the First Presidency included Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust. The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred later on March 20, 1999, conducted by John B. Dickson.
Open House and Dedication
The public was invited to an open house held from March 25, 2000, to April 4, 2000. An impressive total of 51,000 individuals attended during this period. The Temple was dedicated on April 9, 2000, by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, who stated, “May it provide a place of peace and beauty for all who enter.”
Architectural Features
Covering 2.34 acres, the Fresno California Temple measures 10,850 square feet and stands at a height of 71 feet, situated at an elevation of 319 feet. Built as a single story, its exterior is finished in White Sierra granite, quarried in nearby Raymond, California.
Unique Design Elements
The architectural design features a single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, giving it a distinct appearance. The exterior art glass consists of a simple geometric grid pattern and features rectangular art-glass windows accented with small, concentric circular designs. The windows are arranged in groups of three on each wall, complementing the Temple’s classic style.
Interior Highlights
Inside, the Temple boasts high-end light fixtures, including crystal chandeliers, decorative sconces, and flush-mount fixtures. These lighting elements incorporate crystal, gold-colored metal, and brass, aligning with the building’s classical aesthetics and soft color palette. The interior doors are crafted from cherry wood, adorned with brass and nickel hardware, while the exterior doors are made entirely of brass.
A notable art piece in the Temple is “A Original Landscape” by Clark Kelley Price, inspired by a spiritual vision. Additionally, a Vineyard Landscape, painted by an unnamed local artist, adds to the building’s visual richness.

The Fresno California Temple is equipped with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all designed to support its spiritual functions and services.

The Fresno California Temple is noteworthy as the fourth Temple dedicated in the state of California and the first to be built in the central part of the state. Interestingly, it was the 99th temple announced by the Church, though it holds the distinction of being the 78th temple dedicated.
