The journey for the Fresno California Temple began with an announcement on January 8, 1999. The First Presidency sent a letter to priesthood leaders in California, including Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust, highlighting the decision to establish a new Temple in Fresno. Following the announcement, groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on March 20, 1999, led by John B. Dickson.
The public open house was held from March 25, 2000, to April 4, 2000, attracting a remarkable 51,000 attendees who explored the Temple before its official dedication. On April 9, 2000, the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the building, stating, “This is a day of great importance.”
Architectural Features
The Fresno California Temple is constructed on 2.34 acres and spans 10,850 square feet, reaching a height of 71 feet while sitting at an elevation of 319 feet. It features a distinct single story design, and the exterior is finished with White Sierra granite, quarried locally in Raymond, California.
Artistic Details
Adding to its aesthetic appeal, the Temple showcases beautiful exterior art glass featuring a simple geometric grid pattern. The design is characterized by vertically oriented windows, arranged in groups of three on each wall, with small concentric circular accents.
Inside, the Temple displays significant artistic contributions, including an original landscape painting by Clark Kelley Price, which was inspired by a spiritual vision he experienced. This painting is prominently featured near the recommend desk. Additionally, a second vineyard landscape painting by an unnamed local artist further enriches the interior.

The interiors of the Fresno California Temple feature exquisite design elements, including high-end light fixtures. Crystal chandeliers grace the Celestial Room, while decorative sconces and flush-mount fixtures enhance the overall ambiance.
