The Fresno California Temple was announced to the public on January 8, 1999, through a letter sent by the First Presidency, which at that time included Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust. Following the announcement, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on March 20, 1999, led by John B. Dickson.
The Temple opened its doors for a public open house from March 25 to April 4, 2000, attracting a total of 51,000 individuals who had the opportunity to explore its interior. The official dedication took place on April 9, 2000, performed by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, who remarked, “The house of the Lord is a place of peace and serenity.”
Architectural Features
The Fresno California Temple is built on 2.34 acres and features a stunning exterior finish crafted from White Sierra granite quarried in Raymond, California. This edifice showcases architectural elements such as a single attached end spire topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, making it a notable part of the landscape.
Within its 10,850 square feet, the Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, designed for a variety of spiritual purposes. Standing at a height of 71 feet and situated at an elevation of 319 feet, it is a striking addition to the area, being the first Temple built in Fresno and in Fresno County.
Exquisite Interior Design
The interior of the Fresno California Temple is highlighted by elegant light fixtures that include crystal chandeliers in the Celestial Room, decorative sconces, and flush-mount fixtures. Each piece is selected to complement the classical style and soft color palette of the interior.
