The Grand Junction Colorado Temple, the 210th dedicated temple in operation, holds significant meaning for the Latter-day Saint community. Located at 678 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction, Colorado, this House of the Lord stands as a symbol of faith and dedication.

The temple was first announced to the public on April 4, 2021, during the General Conference by Prophet Russell M. Nelson. It marked a pivotal moment for the Church in Colorado, as the region had been home to a vibrant Latter-day Saint presence since the establishment of the first mission in 1896. By the time of the announcement, over 150,000 members and approximately 310 congregations called Colorado home.

Following the announcement, the groundbreaking and dedication of the temple took place on April 16, 2022, led by Apostle Chi Hong Sam Wong of the Quorum of the Seventy. The ceremony was notable, occurring on the eve of Easter Sunday, and set the tone for what would become a cherished landmark in the community.

Architectural Features and Design

Spanning 29,630 square feet and built on 7.93 acres, the Grand Junction Colorado Temple features an exterior finished in Portuguese Pedras Salgadas granite. This choice of material not only enhances its physical presence but also connects the temple to the natural rugged landscape of Grand Junction. Standing at a height of 118.8 feet, the temple is enclosed by a bronze-finished Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence.

The architectural elements include a single attached end spire and no Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which creates a unique silhouette against the Colorado sky. Inside, the temple contains two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, thoughtfully designed to facilitate a spirit of reverence and tranquility.

Art and Interior Design

The artwork and interior details of the Grand Junction Colorado Temple reflect the natural beauty surrounding it. The temple showcases pieces by artists such as Ken Stockton and Wilson Hurley, capturing the dramatic landscapes of the American West. The art glass combines hues of crimson, amber, green, and pale pink, echoing the local flora and adding an elevated context to the artistic elements.

The millwork throughout the temple is crafted from African sapele hardwood, featuring designs that nod to the region’s orchards with peach blossoms. Crystal chandeliers and antique brass finishes illuminate various rooms, providing a sense of elegance.

Community Impact and Future

This House of the Lord is the first temple built in Mesa County and the third in the state of Colorado, following the Denver Colorado Temple and the Fort Collins Colorado Temple. The public open house is scheduled from September 11, 2025, to September 27, 2025, allowing individuals to experience the beauty and spiritual significance of this new temple.
