On October 2, 2022, the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple during a General Conference. The groundbreaking event took place on December 4, 2024, officiated by Mathias Held, a member of the North America Northeast Area Presidency. During this significant event, Elder Held expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We can witness before our eyes how the work is rolling forward, how the Lord is hastening His work at this very special time.” His dedicatory prayer focused on asking God to “hallow and protect this Temple site, which will come to be a place of great spiritual strength and power.”
Architectural Features
Spanning 10.32 acres, the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple exhibits unique architectural features. The Temple stands at a height of 95 feet and covers an area of 20,123 square feet. It is designed as a single story facility and is marked by a single attached end spire. Notably, an Angel Moroni Statue, typically featured in other Temples, is absent from this design.
