The Grand Rapids Michigan Temple was publicly announced on October 2, 2022 by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the General Conference. This announcement set the stage for an exciting development in the region that was eagerly anticipated by many.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
On December 4, 2024, the groundbreaking and site dedication were conducted by Elder Mathias Held of the North America Northeast Area Presidency. Reflecting on the significance of this moment, he noted, “We can witness before our eyes how the work is rolling forward, how the Lord is hastening His work at this very special time.” He dedicated the site with a prayer, asking for divine protection and hallowing of the Temple location, indicating its purpose as a source of spiritual strength.

Spanning 10.32 acres, the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple showcases a variety of architectural details. It features a single attached end spire and does not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue which is common in many Temples.
