The announcement of the Hartford Connecticut Temple was made public on October 2, 2010, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the General Conference. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on August 17, 2013, marking an important phase in its journey. Originally, plans for a Temple in Hartford were introduced at General Conference 18 years prior. However, it was decided that two other Temples would be developed in lieu of the Hartford location—one in Boston, Massachusetts, and another in White Plains, New York (later known as the Harrison New York Temple). After the dedication of the Manhattan New York Temple, plans for the Harrison Temple were later suspended, hence, reinvigorating the focus on Hartford.

The public open house took place from September 30 to October 22, 2016, allowing many to explore the Temple before its dedication. Finally, the Hartford Connecticut Temple was dedicated on November 20, 2016, by Apostle Henry B. Eyring, who remarked, “This Temple will serve as an anchor for the people of this area, drawing them closer to the Lord.”
