The Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, located at 1000 Memorial Dr, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402, is a remarkable site with a rich history and unique architectural features. Announced on March 3, 1937, its groundbreaking took place on December 19, 1938, by Elder David Smith. The dedication of this Temple was conducted by the Prophet David O. McKay on October 19, 1940.

The most recent renovation took two years to complete and introduced several important updates. Notable enhancements include an additional exit for the Bride and Groom’s room, a spacious wedding waiting area, and upgrades to various electrical and mechanical systems.
Architectural Highlights
The IIdaho Falls Idaho Temple is constructed on 8.28 acres and measures an impressive 85,624 square feet, towering at a height of 156 feet and situated at an elevation of 4,716 feet. Its exterior finish consists of reinforced concrete with a 16-inch thick cast stone covering, featuring two-inch thick slabs.
One striking element is the central spire adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. The Temple’s design draws inspiration from the vision of the ancient Nephite Temple, showcasing a unique blend of modern and classic architectural styles.

Room Layout
The Idaho Falls Idaho Temple contains:
- Four instruction rooms
- Seven sealing rooms
- One baptistry
This Temple is one of only seven where individuals progress through four ordinance rooms before entering the Celestial Room, a distinctive characteristic among Temples.
Historical Aspects
Originally named the Idaho Falls Temple, it was notably the first Temple built in Idaho and the only one dedicated by Prophet George Albert Smith. The presentation of the endowment in its earlier days included live acting.
Landscaping Transformation
In the 1960s, the Temple featured three reflection ponds filled with small fish and water lilies. These were eventually transformed into flowerbeds. A significant landscaping renovation in 2011 introduced a beautiful waterfall feature, enhancing the scenery along the banks of the Snake River.
Natural Elements
During its construction, large lava rocks were discovered and utilized for the basement walls.
Unique Historical Context
The exterior of the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple was completed in 1941, but completion of the interior delayed another four years due to World War II. On September 5, 1983, the Gold-leafed Angel Moroni was installed atop the Temple via helicopter, marking a notable moment in its history.
