Announcement and Groundbreaking

The journey of the Burley Idaho Temple began on April 4, 2021, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced its establishment during the 191st General Conference. At that time, Idaho had over 460,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and 1,200 congregations. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 4, 2022, by Brent H. Nielsen. In his remarks, Nielsen expressed gratitude for the abundance found in the Magic Valley and offered heartfelt prayers for an eternal harvest as the House of the Lord began to rise.

Open House and Dedication

After years of anticipation, a public open house was held from November 6 to November 22, 2025. The Burley Idaho Temple was officially dedicated on January 11, 2026, by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks, marking a significant milestone for the community.

Design and Features

Architectural Highlights

This Temple spans 10.12 acres with a total square footage of 45,300. Its stunning exterior is finished in Bianco Sarda granite, and it rises to a height of 172 feet at an elevation of 4,188 feet. The design includes a single attached end spire devoid of a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, presenting a distinctive silhouette against the Idaho sky.

Interior Design

Inside, the Burley Idaho Temple features intricate art glass patterns that draw inspiration from local agriculture, particularly the potato plant. A vibrant color palette of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green resonates with the local farmland and open skies. Soft gold broadloom carpets adorn general areas, while creamy white carpets are laid in sacred rooms, including the celestial and sealing spaces.

Light fixtures, which combine bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster elements, illuminate the interiors. Crystal chandeliers and antique brass finishes provide an atmosphere of elegance, particularly in the brides’ room, celestial room, and sealing rooms.

Artistic Elements

Quarter-sawn sapele wood is used throughout, enriching the Temple’s warm ambiance. The interior doors are meticulously crafted from sapele wood with bronze hardware, featuring a potato blossom design that reflects local heritage. Artwork adorning the Temple underscores the connection to the Magic Valley’s landscape, highlighting its dramatic terrain and celebrating Idaho’s agricultural vista.

Significance and Legacy

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as the seventh Temple built in Idaho, following others established in Idaho Falls, Boise, Rexburg, Twin Falls, Meridian, and Pocatello. With its unique design and intimate connection to the local community, the Burley Idaho Temple is not just a place of spiritual significance but a testimony to Idaho’s rich cultural tapestry and the enduring devotion of its residents.

In conclusion, the Burley Idaho Temple is a remarkable site, blending architectural beauty with local heritage, and serving as a cherished space for reflection and connection.
